Minion Yellow is now a color
There is a new color in town. It’s not new and it’s a really funny one. It’s called 'Minion Yellow.'
Most people may think that only a dozen of colors exist, but the color spectrum is much wider than it seems. Your eye may not sense the difference, but for some artists and designers, "Banana Yellow" is not the same as "Daisy Yellow" or "Electric Yellow." And good news: There is a new yellow in the catalog now: 'Minion Yellow."
Pantone Color Institute, the global color authority that provides professional color stands for the design industries, has released this new yellow.
Anything and anyone could inspire Pantone to create a new color. The tiny and funny stars of the Despicable Me film are the most recent ones to have a color named in their honor.
Musician Pharrell Williams, who created the music for the Despicable Me franchise (including his famous song "Happy"), came up with the idea of this partnership between Pantone and Illumination Entertainment.
"Just as the sun’s rays enliven us, PANTONE Minion Yellow is a color that heightens awareness and creates clarity, lighting the way to the intelligence, originality and the resourcefulness of an open mind – this is the color of hope, joy and optimism," said Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of Pantone Color Institute.
