With the back-to-back Republican and Democratic National Conventions occurring this month, it’s clear that the two parties and their presidential nominees, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, couldn’t be more different. These differences matter greatly for what the next four years will look like for Latinos in the United States, and we’ll turn out in record numbers to make sure that the candidates who stand with us, our families, and our communities win.

On issue after issue, Trump has shown throughout his campaign and his career that he stands against us, while Clinton has proven that she fights for us.

Trump’s attacks on our communities during his campaign are well known, from calling immigrants “rapists” and “killers,” to telling Jorge Ramos to “go back to Univision,” to supporting mass deportation policies that would rip families apart. These divisive attacks are demonizing immigrants and people of color in our country. We’ve seen that even schoolchildren are being bullied, with teachers reporting an uptick in racist insults such as in Wisconsin where elementary school girls playing soccer yelled “Donald Trump, build that wall” at the students of color playing in what had been a friendly match.

The danger of a Trump presidency doesn’t stop at his hateful rhetoric. He’s also staked out economic positions that would hurt working people and their families. He’s said that American wages are “too high.”

Though Latinas make only 54 cents to every dollar that white, non-Hispanic men make, the Republican Congress has voted time and time again against measures that would support progress to address gender discrimination. When asked about unequal pay, Trump suggested that women should just “do as good a job” as men to end the pay gap. In addition, Trump has spent his career putting himself first while hurting students and workers. His Trump University defrauded students, ensuring that he got millions more in his pockets while students hoping for an opportunity to get ahead were left with debilitating debt and no real degree. During his construction projects, he repeatedly failed to pay workers and small businesses the money he owed them.

Hillary Clinton, on the other hand, understands the importance of bringing people together, and she has spent her entire life fighting for children and families, from her job at the Children’s Defense Fund to helping champion the Children’s Health Insurance Program as first lady. As a U.S. senator, Clinton voted for immigration reform, and throughout her campaign, she’s reiterated her support for immigration reform with a path to citizenship. In addition, she’s laid out her plan to make college more affordable, and she strongly supports raising the minimum wage.

These differences matter because we can voice our support for important priorities such as commonsense immigration reform that keeps families together, raising the minimum wage, and equal pay for women by voting for the candidate who champions these causes, Hillary Clinton. By voting in record numbers this year, our votes can make the difference in almost every swing state, including in Pennsylvania, in deciding who wins the presidency and who controls Congress.

With the general election officially in full swing, it’s time for us to take action and make our voices heard against Donald Trump and his hate and in support of Hillary Clinton, who champions the priorities of immigrants and working families. We cannot stay at home. We must get out to vote, register our friends and family members to vote, and bring them with us when we cast our ballots, so that this November, we win. ¡Si se puede!
