The Philadelphia Union had a good last week.

First, on Wednesday, the team announced the USL expansion team which they will own and operate and for which fans can choose a name by going to the website (so far the favorite seems to be “the Bethlehem Steel”).

Then, on Thursday they celebrated that Brazilian left back Fabinho had received his green card. Which in soccer, is the best color of card you can receive.

And finally, on Saturday, they managed to win 1-0 against the Montreal Impact in their second away win of the season. The winning score came from a light touch by the French forward Sébastien Le Toux in the 78th minute, assisted by C.J. Sapong. The game even upset the MLS debut of Didier Drogba, a player best known for being a top scorer and former captain of the Ivory Coast National team.

Overall, this week’s luck might mean some good things in future weeks for the Union.

The USL expansion might allow for more profits and therefore an opportunity for the team to more easily scout for fresh young players — which would almost undoubtedly translate into a stronger Philadelphia team.

And the win on Saturday gives the Union a chance at the playoffs, closing the gap in the rankings between them, New York City FC and Orlando City.
