Around six seconds. That was, more or less, the time Anthony Riley needed to dazzle the four members of ‘The Voice’ jury with his rendition of James Brown’s “I Got You (I Feel Good).” It was one of the fastest “chair swings” in the history of the show’s blind auditions.

Musician Blake Shelton was the first to reach for the red button — he only needed three seconds to realize he wanted the Philly-born artist on his team. “You had me at ah!” he said. Not too many seconds later the remaining judges — Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine and Pharrell Williams — decided to enjoy Riley’s performance with all five senses. Because the truth is, Riley’s voice is not his only quality. According to Shelton, Riley’s ¨absolutely perfect singing and amazing dance moves that remind me of myself.”

Riley’s talent may have surprised the fans and judges of the show, but certainly not Philly residents. People in the city of brotherly love are well aware of the talents of one their most famous and well-known street performers. 

The “bad” news for Philadelphia citizens is that, at least for now, we’ll not be able to enjoy Riley’s street performances. However, we can watch him on “The Voice,” where he will be performing with the help of one of the most celebrated singers and music producers in contemporary music.  Because, despite trying hard to convince him — ¨Adam wants to change what you do;Pharrell and Christina, that would be like mixing water with water. I would be like putting whisky in your water¨ — Riley didn’t choose to be coached by Shelton but by Pharrell.
