Latinos connect to American Jewish history

Wednesdays are different at the National Museum of American Jewish History (NMAJH). From 5 PM to 8 PM, visitors wander through the five floors of exhibitions as part of a "pay what you wish" evening. But on Wednesday, July 16, a handful of Latino visitors participated in a special introduction and discussion to compliment their wanderings through history, from when the first Jewish settlers came to the United States from South America to identities and experiences today.

But on Wednesday, July 16, a handful of Latino visitors participated in a special introduction and discussion to compliment their wanderings through history, from when the first Jewish settlers came to the United States from South America to identities and experiences today.

The evening was part of the museum's effort to reach out to communities throughout Philadelphia and facilitate discussion between Latinos and non-Latinos.

Staff from the Mexican Consulate, Mexican Cultural Center, the NMAJH and individuals from around the city gathered in the museum's Pomegranates Café over a beer and popcorn to discuss Latino and Jewish identities, histories, immigration, assimilation, preserving heritage and other shared experiences in America.
