Latinas and the Oscars, a stylish affair
From Zoe Saldana’s Atelier Versace to Gina Rodriguez’s eco-dress, last night's latinas conquered the Oscars red carpet.
Nobody won, but nobody lost either. Style, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder, but if we have to describe in a word last night's red carpet it would be "predictable." The stars chose to play it safe.
Four Latina women bright outside the Dolby Theater. One of the noteworthy looks? The nude dress made by Atelier Versace that Zoe Saldana wore. Jennifer Lopez also chose a flesh-tone color. However, despite changing the designer of her dress (JLo chose Elie Saab over Zuhair Murad, one of her favorite designers) everybody seemed to think she looked the same as always: astonishing, but too predictable.
America Ferrera's choice, a Grecian-style gown by Jenny Packham, was much more colorful. Gina Rodriguez wore a blue eco-dress created by design student Manon Gabard as a part of Red Carpet Green Dress Initiative.
Latino fashion designer Gabriela Cadena also has a remarkable role in Oscar red carpet as she created ‘Boyhood’ actress Lorelei Linklater's oriental-inspired dress. Sofia Vergara, who missed the gala but not the after party, chose a strapless baby blue dress from Zuhair Murad.
