Mexican Director Michel Franco and Colombian filmmaker César Augusto Acevedo were among the winners at the Cannes Film Festival, which concluded Sunday. 

Franco won the Best Screenplay award for “Chronic,” which he also directed, while Augusto won the Camera d'Or or Best First Feature award for "La Tierra y la Sombra.”

“Chronic” stars Tim Roth as a nurse who takes care of terminally ill patients and who has trouble communicating with others.

“La Tierra y la Sombra” tells the story of a farmer who abandoned his family and comes back to help his dying son while his woman and daughter-in-law who are forced to do the work in the field.

Mexican filmmaker Guillermo del Toro was part of the jury presided by the Coen brothers.
