Local chefs nominated for James Beard Awards
The Philly food scene is being recognized again and this time by one of the most prestigious awards.
Five chefs, one restaurant entrepreneur, and one restaurant reviewer from the Philadelphia region have been nominated for James Beard Foundation Awards.
Marc Vetri, of Vetri, Osteria, Alla Spina, etc., is one of five nominated for Outstanding Chef. This isn’t Vetri’s first time being nominated. He’s been nominated several times and was named the best chef for the Mid-Atlantic region in 2005.
Stephen Starr of Starr Restaurants is nominated for Outstanding Restaurateur. Starr has 22 restaurants and other dining establishments in Philly including Parc, Morimoto, El Vez, and Talula's Garden. He also has restaurants in other cities such as New York, Atlantic City, Washington, D.C., Miami and Fort Lauderdale.
Alex Bois of High Street on Market is nominated for Rising Star Chef of the Year. For best chef of the Mid-Atlantic region, Joe Cicala of Le Virtù, Rich Landau of Vedge, and
Greg Vernick of Vernick Food & Drink are nominated.
The Philadelphia Inquirer's Craig LaBan is also nominated for the Restaurant Review Award.
The award ceremony will take place on May 4 in Chicago.
